Back in 1996, a group of musicians from Rishon-le-Zion Symphony Orchestra- violinists Maria Bateman and Dora Finman, violist Moshe Tsinman and cellist Hirsh Friedman - formed a string quartet, initially naming it ‘Rishon’.
The Rishon’s founders were trained at the best musical academies in the former Soviet Union, and played a prominent role in the musical life of their country of birth.
In 2004 Michael Gorodetsky- a talented clarinettist and prize winner of numerous Klezmer music festivals in Israel and other countries- joined the quartet. With his arrival the ensemble became known as Bessarabia.
The band’s repertoire is wide ranging, from the classics to various folk tunes, but their forte is Klezmer music. Bessarabia’s sparkling improvisations derive strength from the musicians’ unbridled virtuosity tempered only by their faultless taste.
Be rest assured that you are going to witness a truly festive musical event right here at Revelation!
